The Rutledge Family

John and Laura Rutledge are the proud parents of four children, Meredith(22), Blake(20), Carley(18) and Grant(15).  John is a principal at Freese & Nichols and Laura is a busy mom and community volunteer.

When Carley was 16, she was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma, a rare bone cancer that usually affects teens and young adults.   After Carley’s 11 months of treatment at Cook Children’s in FW and MD Anderson in Houston, family and friends started a foundation to raise awareness, fund research and improve the quality of care for this neglected cancer population.  There are more than 72,000 young adults diagnosed with cancer each year--and no new drugs or change in cure rates for this age group in over 25 years.

The Carley J. Rutledge Sarcoma Foundation has held two fundraising “Gold Ribbon Games” kickball tournaments and on Thursday, October 11th, the 2nd Annual Going for Gold Luncheon will be held at Rivercrest Country Club.  Go to goldribboncure.org to learn more.
